Welcome Back!
AI tools are evolving every day, and our weekly review covers the tools to keep your business a step ahead
This week is about getting it right the first trip. Three tools for the pre-job brief, the mechanical room, and the jobsite walk.
ServiceTrade Smart Tech Prepare · Commercial
When the gate code is in a text thread and what failed last visit is buried in months of job history

Pain It Targets
Techs texting or calling the office for gate codes and access details before they can start
Asset history and last visit notes scattered across old records, scrolled through on a phone in the customer's parking lot
Arriving without the full picture means guessing, winging it, or coming back for a second trip
What Smart Tech Prepare Does
AI prep mode built into the ServiceTrade mobile app, launched June 16, 2026, that turns your own service records, asset history, open deficiencies, location notes, and pinned comments into a short, readable summary before the tech arrives
Quick prompts let a tech drill into one job or one asset's history, and a multi-appointment brief covers every stop on the day's schedule in one summary before leaving the shop
Pulls from your ServiceTrade records, not generic AI, and works within the access controls you already have set up
ServiceTrade is field service management software built for commercial service contractors, mainly fire protection and mechanical, and says more than 1,300 contractors use it
Rough Public Pricing (always confirm directly with the site)
No public price list: ServiceTrade says pricing is driven mainly by the number of technicians you support, plus the suite you pick (Select, Premium, or Enterprise)
Smart Tech Prepare is available to Premium and Enterprise customers, per ServiceTrade's blog, so it is not in the entry Select suite
No free plan or free trial listed on the pricing page
Honest Caveat
Based on public info, not tested by us yet
Pricing is not public, so you have to talk to ServiceTrade to get a number
Premium and Enterprise suites only
It is not a standalone app: using it means adopting the ServiceTrade platform for your scheduling, work orders, and asset history
The figures of $5,800 in lost billable work per tech per year and 1.2 hours a day are ServiceTrade's own estimates
A summary is only as good as the notes your techs and office already put into the system
15 Minutes to Keep It or Leave It
No public trial, so your 15 minutes is homework. Look back at last week's service calls and count how many times a tech called the office for access details or past visit history before starting work. If that happens often, request a demo, ask to see a full-day brief built from a realistic job history, and price it for your tech count; keep it. If the calls are rare or you're happy with your current field service software, leave it.

Bluon · Commercial/Residential
When the nameplate is faded, the manual is gone, and the unit is older than the tech working on it
Image Not Available from Bluon
Pain It Targets
Old or rebranded equipment with no paperwork on the job
Techs calling the shop or a senior tech to work through a diagnosis
Wrong parts ordered, so the job needs a second trip
What Bluon Does
HVAC database by model number: original manuals, specs, bill of materials, compatible and superseded parts, wiring diagrams, common problems, and which suppliers carry the part
MasterMechanic, its AI tech support, walks a tech through troubleshooting for that exact model; live tech support from experienced HVAC techs is available per use when the AI isn't enough
Covers residential (1 to 5 ton) and commercial (5 to 500 ton) equipment, and can run inside field service management software like ServiceTitan, BuildOps, and Housecall Pro
Rough Public Pricing (always confirm directly with the site)
No public price list: custom pricing set by tech count, assets, and field service management software
Bluon’s pricing page says most contractors choose an annual plan with monthly payments, and its business terms renew automatically and ask for 30 days’ written notice to cancel after any trial
Bluon mentions a free "Basic" membership in the app; we couldn't confirm what it includes today
Live tech support is charged per use for subscribers
Honest Caveat
Based on public info, not tested by us yet
You have to request a demo to get a price
We emailed Bluon on October 10 asking for review access and haven't heard back yet
The accuracy numbers on their site are Bluon's own; a tech should still verify before replacing parts
15 Minutes to Keep It or Leave It
No public trial, so your 15 minutes is homework. Download the free Bluon app, pull up two units you serviced recently by model number, and check the manual, parts list, and wiring diagram against what you found on the job. If that's faster than your current search, request a demo and price it for your tech count; keep it. If the free side doesn't find your equipment, leave it.

Mitti · Commercial
When the safety walk is on a clipboard and the punch list lives in three different text threads

The flagged item and its assigned action in our test report (from our own Mitti account)
Pain It Targets
Paper checklists get lost, filled in late, or never make it back to the office
Problems spotted on site don't get assigned to anyone
Proving an inspection happened takes digging when someone asks
What Mitti Does
Mitti is the new name for SafetyCulture (renamed August 2026): digital checklists and inspections on phone or web, with photos, reports, issues, and assigned actions
AI Issue Creation turns a photo, prompt, or voice note into an issue ready to review; AI Assistant answers questions about your inspections and issues and can build or edit templates
Rough Public Pricing (always confirm directly with the site)
Free: $0 for up to 10 users, 5 active inspection templates, up to 300 AI credits per seat per month
Premium: about $24/seat/mo billed annually, $29 monthly, unlimited templates, starts at 500 AI credits
Enterprise: custom price
14-day Premium trial started on its own when we signed up, and no card was asked for
Field Notes (we tested it)
We typed one sentence describing a daily safety walk for a commercial mechanical contractor, and the AI built a 9-section checklist in about a minute
It covered ladders and lifts, fall protection, hot work permits, lockout and tagout, housekeeping, protective equipment, and open floor penetrations, with a photo field in each section
A few questions were generic (hard hats, dumpsters), so plan on a few minutes of edits for your trade
Our sample inspection took about 3 minutes on the web app
Marking an item "No" forced a note and an assigned action with a due date before we could move on, so the problem gets an owner
The PDF report put flagged items and open actions at the top, then every answer
Clunky parts: the checklist had to be published before we could use it, a required "site" field had to be switched off first, and the approval step left the inspection showing as unfinished
We didn't see the AI issue option on our failed item, and we couldn't find where it shows AI credits used
Honest Caveat
Tested by us on one sample inspection on a computer, not yet on a phone on a live jobsite
Built for many industries, not only construction, so expect to tune templates for your trade
Free plan caps you at 5 active templates and 10 users
AI use is capped by monthly AI credits on every plan, so heavy use may push you to Premium
15 Minutes to Keep It or Leave It
Sign up for the free plan. Turn one paper checklist you already use (a safety walk or a startup checklist) into a template, run it on your next job from your phone, and log one issue from a photo with AI Issue Creation. If the report is ready to send before you leave the site, keep it; if the crew won't fill it out, leave it.

Tool We Passed On
UpCodes · Commercial/Residential: a searchable code library, but the entry paid plan runs about $39 to $45 per user a month with only a few AI Copilot questions (full Copilot is about $59 to $68), a hard sell when general AI tools can point you to a code section for little or nothing (always check the actual code text before you show the inspector)
How We Operate
Keep issues short so you can read them between calls
We personally test every tool we can, and we'll always note the ones we couldn't
Some links may earn us a commission, and we'll always label them clearly
